1953 After years of indecision, Karl Zick took a tentative step and opened the grounds as a campground – and ended up recording 2000 overnight stays in just his first year.

1955 A lottery win of DM 17,000 was used to build the “motel” and served as lodging for travellers as well as a lavatory for campers. Together with the German DCC camping club, a winter rally was held during the Christmas season. Its resounding success resulted in both winter as well as summer camping programmes ever since.

1963 Armin Zick inherited the campground from his father Karl Zick.

1967 The first large commercial building was built offering the latest in sanitary facilities including draught-free restrooms and private bathing cubicles. This building served simultaneously as restaurant, shop and reception area. The “motel” became the Zicks’ private residence. Camping tourism experienced enormous growth in the 1970s and 80s and the Tennsee campground was known wide and far, becoming very popular among both tourists “just passing through” as well as long-term holidaymakers who thought of Krün as their second home. Encouraged by this positive development, efforts at this time were diligently focused on collecting old wood and further enlarging the campground.

1983-85 After many years spent gaining the necessary approval, a two-year construction period saw the building of today’s reception building and restaurant as well as upgrades to the sanitary building including private bathing cubicles and additional WCs. Tennsee became one of the most modern camping facilities in all of Europe, featuring its own gas route line, campsite water taps and wastewater disposal, electricity, telephone and television connections. And thereby set new standards for the camping industry. Tennsee introduced its own peak-season daycare services and organised activities for young and old.
