Guest card Alpenwelt Karwendel

The guest card offers numerous discounts, reductions e. g.  free bus service to Walchensee, Mittenwald, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and back.
We will gladly provide you with information about worthwhile excursion destinations at our reception.

Excursions are organised by our local bus companies. Contact the Reisebüro Ferienglück travel agency (run by the Kriner family), Tel. 08825-599 or the Hornsteiner travel agency, Tel. 08825-470. We’ve also put together a few suggestions for your own private excursions. As always, more information is available at our reception.

 Höllentalklamm

Höllentalklamm (“Hell’s Valley Gorge”)
Starting point is the hiker’s car park near Hammersbach/Grainau. The climb to the Höllentalangerhütte lodge (approx. 3 Std.) ascends a 445 m elevation gain (closed in winter). Every step is an exhilarating experience of the untamed forces of the water gushing through the ravines until the valley widens and you arrive at the Höllentalangerhütte lodge below the Zugspitze. For children 5 and up.

Partnachklamm

Partnachklamm (“Partnach Gorge”)
Starting point is the car park at the Olympic Ski Stadium in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Walk up or take a horse-drawn carriage (approx. 30 min) to the entrance. The gorge is roughly 700 m long along an awe-inspiring path carved into the solid rock above the churning torrents of water. Particularly suitable for families (valley gorge), easily accessible. For children 3 and up.

Oberammergau

An approximate 35 km drive via Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Oberau and Ettal. Picturesque village home to the famous Passion Play theatre, the frescoed Pilatushaus, a beautiful city hall and traditional woodcarving..

Linderhof Palace

An approximate 30 km drive via Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Oberau, Ettal. Built by King Ludwig II, Linderhof features palatial grounds, the Moorish Kiosk, Venus Grotto and hunting lodges. This is definitely one place you don’t want to miss!

Wieskirche (church)

An approximate 40 km drive via Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Oberau, Ettal, Oberammergau and Steingaden. The “Pilgrimage Church of the Scourged Saviour” is considered one of the most beautiful Rococo churches in all of Germany.

Munich (day trip)

Most convenient way to visit is by rail – just 1 hour, 40 minutes from Klais. Once at Munich’s main railway station, you can stroll the pedestrian zone all the way to Marienplatz and on into the Englischer Garten. Olympic Park and the Deutsche Museum are just two examples of the countless sites of interest Munich has to offer, as is also the  Tierpark Hellabrunn zoo – always a treat for young and old.

Karwendel

The western Karwendel peak (2384 m) makes for a stunning vantage point, offering you an incomparable view of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountain chains, the valleys of the Isar and the Inn, the far Stubai Central Alps ridges as well as the Upper Bavarian Alpine foothills and lake region. The Karwendelbahn gondola in Mittenwald carries you right to the mountain station (2244 m) at the heart of these commanding high mountains. Be sure not to miss the newly opened Nature Exhibit Centre.

Innsbruck (day trip)

Also super-easy by rail – just 1 hour, 10 minutes from Klais. The city centre invites leisurely strolls and window shopping. The Hungerburg district and Alpine Zoo keep watch over Innsbruck from above.

Violinmaking Museum

The museum is located right next to the church and allows you an up-close look at traditional violinmaking craftsmanship.

Open April to late October, Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.; also Mondays in July and August. A journey into the past, into the farming and handcrafting culture as it was here for hundreds of years. An approximate 20 km drive via Walchensee, Kochelsee, Schlehdorf and Großweil.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Magnificently situated in the upper Isar valley against the imposing backdrop of the Karwendel range. AlpspiX

Breathtaking views at the foot of the Alpspitze.
This experience is accessible to everyone thanks to the mountain railways and is easily combined with simple hikes. For families, a walk along the summit adventure trail around the Osterfelderkopf can be enjoyed. The pleasure trail from the mountain station of the Alpspitzbahn to the mountain station of the Kreuzeckbahn can also be combined with a spectacular view from the AlpspiX.
